Help me give my students art supplies so they can create vision boards as a way to set smart goals and focus their learning and effort to achieve these goals.
My school is a 100% Title I school. All 600 students qualify for free or reduced breakfast and lunch (under the guidelines established by the US Department of Agriculture).
The majority of the students I serve as a School Counselor are minorities that come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with Adverse Childhood Experiences and lack the motivation to dream of a better life.
Many of my students experience hurt and grief that often overshadows any hope or dream of them having a better future.
My Project
My one hundred and twenty 5th grade students will create a Career Vision Board that will reflect their future career goals.
Students will design a Career Vision Board by drawing and collecting visual imagery from magazines and the internet that illustrate those goals.
They will place their inspirations and goals on their vision board. Their Career Vision Board will be a reminder to help them to keep dreaming. Students can continue revising their vision boards yearly to always mirror their current goals. I hope is that this personalized vision board will be the beginning of their hopes and dreams of becoming who they want to be when they grow up.
