Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My middle school students are lively, fearless, and active learners. My students are completely bilingual and bi-literate. These students come to school each and every day ready to learn despite their family living arrangements. They have daily struggles, but they try their hardest to overcome these struggles to become successful students. The COVID pandemic and the resulting effects have continued to negatively impact our student's community.
My school is located in a neighborhood that faces many difficulties on a daily basis.
My amazing diverse group of students is always eager to tackle any challenge I present to them and thrive when given the opportunity to work and learn collaboratively in a variety of ways.
Getting my students back full-time into the classroom and adjusting them to learning in a physical setting has been a challenge. My students are currently in the process of learning how to interact with one another in a healthy and positive manner.
My Project
My students can easily lose track of time and focus. In my classroom, I have found that a countdown timer has helped keep my students with special needs on task. However, I only have one smartboard that we are not able to share and it makes it difficult for the other teachers to access the information for the lesson without interrupting the timer.
The visual timers my para and I can use in our small groups, during collaborative group work, or station learning would benefit our students greatly.
These timers will also benefit students who need a visual countdown of the current time. Having a timer that signals to students when time is about to be up will greatly support their transitions to a different learning activity in the classroom, will also improve self-management of organization skills for the real world.
