"Keep on Talking" is the message I want to impart to my speech and language impaired students. Even when communication is difficult because of a disability my students still have a voice. They have great ideas and strong opinions and they deserve to be listened to and understood.
I work with K-4th grade speech and language impaired students in Michigan.
Many of my students and their families have been negatively impacted by the Michigan economy. Lots of our families have lost jobs and health insurance. None of my students are attending speech therapy outside of the school setting even though their communication problems may be very severe. For some of these kids, school based speech therapy is their only chance to improve their communication skills and I am taking that responsibility VERY seriously.
My Project
I have requested 3 items, all of which are intended to help students increase the effectiveness of their oral and written communication abilities. These products have the potential to improve oral intelligibility for students with significant articulation problems, and improve grammar, sentence structure and content for those with language disabilities. The intent of these programs are to assist the children in increasing communicative confidence, effectiveness and assertiveness.
This project has the potential to make significant changes in the lives of my communication impaired students.
Competency with oral and written expression is necessary to be successful both within and outside of the school setting. Improving expressive skills will help my students be better able to participate in classroom discussions, to state and defend their opinions on the playground, and to share stories with family members. Please consider being a part of this very important mission.
