I truly love all of my students like they are my own. I teach at a Title I campus with 60% of students economically disadvantaged. My students are a diverse bunch and vary in learning styles. Even though they are faced with obstacles daily they are hard-workers and eager to learn.
I want to provide my students with a learning environment that is inviting and engaging while promoting ownership and collaboration amongst peers.
At times my students can lack the focus they need to be successful learners because they are in an uncomfortable position. I want to give students in my classroom additional flexible seating options. This will help me to continue to create a place where each and every student has a flexible seat. Just imagine the looks on my student's face when they all have a flexible seating option!
"You have great things going on in your room. I love that you are doing flexible seating. It really creates a very warm environment in your classroom. It is great that you give students the freedom to choose where they want to do their work. I can tell the students want to work very hard to meet your expectations." These are the exact words from my principal about some of the flexible seating options I already have in my classroom. To allow more flexible seating choices I would love to have additional seating options like balance ball chairs and stools.
Research has shown that flexible seating helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
The additional seating choices will enable all of my students to be able to choose where they want to learn in the classroom and take charge of how they learn.
Students will use the balance ball chairs and stools throughout the school day. Each student will be able to choose a desired location that fits their learning needs and sit in a comfortable position that works for them. I have seen a tremendous difference in having flexible seating and I would love to have additional options to benefit all students!
