My students' enthusiasm encourages me each day. Their excitement toward learning is uplifting. I am encouraged by their drive to take on new tasks on a daily basis. When the students arrive at school each day, they are looking forward to each and every new challenge that comes their way. Many of my students live in a rural setting that makes learning difficult, but they work hard at overcoming any difficulties they may have at home.
My students are active, smart, and funny kids with a passion for learning and having fun.
I want to give my students the opportunity to be creative, think critically, collaborate, and communicate. Through these projects, my students have been exposed to new and different areas of learning, which have encouraged them to achieve beyond what they thought possible.
My Project
We started our MakerSpace at my school a couple of years ago, and started tinkering with Lego Mindstorm Robotics. We are now ready to move our tinkering to the next level. The Lego Robot expansion sets and accessories, I am requesting will provide those opportunities to my students to join the FIRST Lego League. The students will be able to create robotics and have valuable experiences in an ever growing industry.
FIRST Lego League Offers opportunities for my students that they have never experienced.
If through the FLL , I can encourage one student to become an engineer, computer programmer, or anything in a STEM related field, then I have done my job. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education and the soft skills associated with team work leads to increased literacy and critical thinking; this enables the next generation of innovators.
Most of my students come from lower-income families who cannot afford the tools and resources needed to compete in the job market. This project focuses on skills students need to be successful adults and leaders.
