Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school in a high-needs area of New York City. My first grade students come into school eager and willing to learn, but need extra help filling in the gaps in their knowledge.
50% of my class are reading below grade level, and it is my goal to bring all of them up to or above grade level to insure a successful scholastic career where my students can develop a true life-long love of learning.
My Project
Our school's instructional focus this year is small group instruction. In a first grade classroom, this means that while I'm working with a small group of children, the others need to be working in centers that are targeted for their needs and engaging enough to keep their attention through each rotation.
These supplies will capture my students' interest while building their reading skills at the same time.
My students are at an age where a child's love of reading and learning can really be encouraged. With these materials, we can ensure that my deserving students will flourish into capable, confident readers!
