Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of working at a title one school in Virginia where 73% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. I'm in a 2nd grade classroom with 17 amazingly diverse students filling the roster. These students have worked so hard this year and have inhabited the roles of reader, mathematician, writer, scientist, and historian with as much effort as they can muster.
I owe each of my students a extraordinary learning experience.
Whether that's pretending to be engineers to create 3D shapes, or singing songs about matter set to the music they love. I want my students to know that they can count on me for anything, including a memorable experience each day in the classroom.
My Project
My students come to school full of energy everyday and are ready to learn! Just like adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do too! They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning.
It is my hope that these wobbly stools will be the first phase of implementing flexible seating in my room.
These stools will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning.
This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
