Creative Writing students utilize tremendous abstract thought and creativity on a daily basis. Students are constantly challenged to "think outside the box." Sometimes, there is no box. Students elect to take this academic English elective to become a better writer or just for the sheer enjoyment of writing.
Just recently, Creative Writing students began a Writing Buddies Program with a Special Needs class within our school.
We write together once a week with planned writing activities that are led by Creative Writing students. This creates a unified school and a love for writing.
My Project
Magnetic Poetry Kits assist students in the writing process. These kits can assist hesitant writers in generating story ideas, character ideas, and just get kids excited about writing! With these magnetic tiles, students can move words, take risks, and get engaged with the writing process.
This is a very tactile approach to the writing process.
Students who have trouble coming up with words have a myriad of words at their disposal. It is less intimidating, and students who perhaps would stare at a blank page can now begin to string words together with confidence and excitement. Eventually, a love of writing will develop.
