My Students

My students are outgoing, opinionated, and thoughtful. As an Integrated Co-Special Education teacher, my students are challenged on a daily basis across the content area; however, they never seem defeated and unmotivated to get their work done to the very high standards they are held to.

Their energy and enthusiasm for education exceed my expectations on a daily basis.

I am so proud of the progress and contributions they make to our class.

Our school's demographic is made up of a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I find that due to this diversity, my students are presented with many difficulties when trying to access educational materials. There is not a day where I am not challenged, but it's this that pushes me to be a better teacher. I encourage them to be the best they can be by promoting a positive learning environment, incorporating strategies for their individual learning styles, and an ear for them to talk to. I believe that their individual learning styles reflect how unique each of my students are and the importance of taking the time to show them their worth.

My Project

The purpose of this project is to give my students access to books that are age appropriate and on their reading level. As a special education teacher, I have many students who are not fluent readers and who are not reading on grade level. Independent reading is a part of our daily class routine during AM/PM homeroom and ELA. My students are constantly faced with the challenge of choosing a book that is both engaging and on their reading level.

I want them to experience getting lost in a book.

I want them to be able to escape from their challenges in a book. I want them to find meaning in words and language.

By donating to this project you will be helping my students gain access to level-appropriate texts. In turn, this will help promote positive reading habits and positive self-esteem.
