I am a kindergarten teacher in a public school located in North Carolina. I have a classroom full of inquisitive 5-year-old minds that desire to become avid readers. My students are just beginning to understand that books can unlock knowledge. They are realizing that they can become 'experts' on topics by reading about them in books.
I want to foster their love of reading and provide them with a literacy rich environment, that puts them on their path to their best learning.
There is no doubt that reading at home is one of the best ways to set on the right path for doing students to do their best learning. The "reading at home" research is well-documented, and when students have access to lots of books at home, this is not a problem. I want to provide the students in my classroom with books that they can take home Creating a Home Reading Program in my class and grade level that really levels the playing field and eliminates disparities about the number of books in the home. I want to help make literacy a top priority for my students and their families!
