My students attend one of the first schools dedicated to the academic, behavioral and social success of students with Autism. This school gives students on the Autism spectrum the opportunity to be successful in an environment that understands their individual and unique needs. Helping my students reach their full potential so that they can enjoy productive and successful futures is my greatest goal.
Developing social skills, recognizing emotions and self-regulation is difficult for many students on the Autism spectrum.
Using books to teach about social interactions and emotions help the students to understand and apply the concepts. Students want to be liked and have friends, some just need a little help. The books requested in this project have been recommended by top researchers. They will help my students develop the social, emotional and self-regulatory skills needed to succeed.
My Project
All of the students at my school receive social and emotional awareness education. These books will supplement this curriculum and add an exciting new dimension to the lessons.
Teaching students how to interact with peers and teachers is so important for future success.
These books will enable us to use a fun and interactive medium to engage our students. Books are one of the best tools we can use to model behaviors for students on the Autism spectrum. They enjoy the pictures and can relate to the characters.
I have seen how social and emotional education can improve the relationships of my students have with peers, family, and teachers. I believe that these books will be an important part of that education.
