This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a high crime, high poverty neighborhood. When many of them go home they are facing challenges I couldn't imagine facing as an adult, much less a 9 year old. They are on many different instructional levels, often being at least one grade level below where they should be.
My students are very eager to learn.
They enjoy coming to school when it is made fun- and that is my goal, to make it fun for all of my students.
My Project
The goal of every teacher is to have their students in learning activities from the time they walk through the door. The morning rush is often the hardest time to engage students for many reasons. They are still tired for one and as teachers, we often have 9 million other jobs we must get done first thing like taking roll and collecting money. This can cause a problem.
As Hope King says, "How you start your day is how you end it- so start your day on a good note!" I am requesting items that will allow my students some fun and engaging learning opportunities as soon as they get in the door that don't require me to be sitting with them.
This allows me to get done with the important things that must be done while also allowing my students a fun learning opportunity. The items I’m requesting include strategy games like Blokus and Conmext 4 and Kanoodle. I am also requesting some tools to get my kids thinking outside the box including a Marble Maze set, Plus Plus Blocks and Kinetic Sand. You may look at these items and just see fun, not learning. These are all activities that teach skill students so desperately need but are difficult to teach from a normal lesson. Some of these skills include team work, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
