Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The majority of our 220 1st and 2nd grade students are of low socio-economic status. We are a Title 1 school with about 90% of our students being English language learners.

Many students don't participate in after school sports or activities that the city offers because most of them can't afford to pay the cost of enrollment. School is the place that many of these children get any kind of exercise.

Having playground equipment will enable our students to expand their physical fitness capabilities. Right now they are limited to a slide and 2 jungle gyms. Although we have basketball hoops and a handball court, the students don't have balls to use on either court. It would benefit the students to learn the objectives of basketball games, four square, handball, and dodgeball. Likewise, they can get physically fit by using the hula hoops and jumpropes. They wouldn't know they were doing exercise because they would just be having fun.

You will make it possible for my students to complete their physical fitness requirements and have fun during recess by providing our students with the playground equipment cart. Our students will lower their chances of developing childhood obesity. Our students would just like a variety of equipment from which to choose from when participating in fitness/recess activities.
