Help me give my students a carpet and stools so they could sit and read books with buddies, watch educational videos and do activities in their small groups.
My fifth-grade students are enthusiastic learners. They love reading chapter books with characters they can identify with like Ben in Night of the Spadefoot Toads by Bill Harry, and Brian in Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. They especially enjoy using electronic devices to research and practice math, science, social studies while enhancing their reading skills.
Our student body is very diverse and they come from very rich multicultural backgrounds.
It is a great challenge to be able to reach and to teach such a diverse group of students. No doubt, very enriching too!
We do many projects during the school year like the Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History, Science and Family History. We are fortunate enough to have enough Chromebooks for each fifth-grade student to research and, to work at their individual levels in online reading and math programs.
My Project
Students get tired sitting for hours on the hard plastic chairs. I would like them to "get Comfy" while learning on a nice rug- the Cultural 4' x 6' Carpet - Mexico would be the perfect item for my students to sit on and do their reading activities.
When rotating through centers students like to sit on the floor but the thin carpeting on hard floors is not very comfortable to sit on for longer periods of time.
For small group guided reading students come to the kidney table to learn with the teacher. The chairs get too congested and, so two small stools (OFM Orbit Student Height Curved-base Active Stool 14" High - Vinyl Blue (2814-ATV-V-BLU) will save space and the classroom will look better.
A nice warm blue rug like the one I would like to have in my classroom will definitely contribute to enhancing the environment by making it more comfortable. Students miss the comfort of home at school and if in some small way we could improve upon the comfort level at school, then, I am convinced that my students will love learning in that environment.
