Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very special 6 and 7-year-olds who have reminded me what it's like to love my job. After spending a handful of years feeling unhappy in a 6th grade classroom, and ultimately taking a break from the teaching profession, I will truly be forever grateful to this group of kids for bringing so much joy back to the career I once fell in love with.
Every day, we strive to be role models in our school.
Whether we're walking through the halls, completing center work with our groups, or even just taking a break to use the washroom and get a quick drink of water, my students aim to please. They love positive recognition, and I am more than happy to provide just that!
It is truly my privilege to work with such a fine group of culturally diverse students. Many come from low-income families in a neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. They come to school everyday with smiles on their faces. Not only are they willing to learn, they actually WANT to learn. They're fascinated with the ordinary, and something as simple as reading a three letter word can make them beam with pride.
My Project
It has long been said that people eat with their eyes first. When something looks good, there will be great excitement to taste it. Wouldn't you agree that the same can be said for learning? When a classroom looks nice, kids will be motivated to learn.
I believe that all students deserve an education in a classroom that is clean, comfortable, and inviting.
While I have done my best to create walls that are both academically rich and visually appealing, I'm stuck when it comes to my floor. Anybody who's spent time in a first grade classroom knows that the floor is very important! Sitting in desks all day long is really not an option. My super stars need to be up. They need to move!!
We spend a great deal of time on the floor. Unfortunately, that time is spent on hard, tan tile. It's dreary. It's montone. It's uncomfortable. I'd LOVE to give them a bright, colorful, comfortable carpet where they can stretch out and work with friends to build a solid academic foundation that will grow throughout their education.
