My students need a cozy, inviting place to relax and read during our Daily 5 time. The couch and rug area will warm up the reading corner so they can curl up with a good book!
Our gem of a school is located on the border between two cities and serves both communities. We are a K-4 building with just under 300 students. We have an extremely diverse population and have ELL students from many different countries. We are also a targeted Title I school where many of our families face challenges. Many of my students are raised by single parents and have challenges outside the classroom.
Our school is a second home and place that provides stability and structure.
My classroom is a safe, loving place where they can explore, grow and shine! The students arrive each day with smiles, hugs and an eagerness to tell me their stories! They have amazing imaginations and bring that excitement with them each day!
My Project
Our second grade classroom is a busy place with a lot of learning and independence! We have worked very hard to establish structured routines that follow the Daily 5 plan. The kiddos look forward to the independent reading time and can't wait to take their turn with their own personal book boxes.
A warm, cozy, designated area for students to relax on a carpet or curl up on a couch will provide the perfect place for independent reading!
This will be a nice break from their student desks and chairs, and offer some warmth instead of the cool, tiled floors. This independent reading time happens every day during our workstation time. For many of our kiddos, school reading time is the only leisure reading they do, so I would like to make it the best experience possible.
