Get a Grip...Ready, Set, Write!

My students need pencil grips to help establish a tripod pencil grip when writing and they will use the reading phones to practice reading the stories they have written.

My Students

What I love most about kindergarten is that my students are always so eager to learn. My students live in a small agricultural community and often lack cultural experiences beyond our area. For many, this is their first school experience and so everything is new and exciting to them.

My goal is to engage each child through hands-on activities that draw from their background knowledge, creativity, and teamwork skills.

My students love listening to stories and "reading" books of their own. They enjoy creative writing, art, and solving math problems using a variety of math tools. Most of all, we like to have fun while we learn!

My Project

Kindergarten is the foundation for creating many essential skills, especially handwriting. I want writing to be fun and exciting for my students, but have found that many become fatigued when writing because they lack a proper pencil grip.

Students will first use the pencil grips to help establish a tripod grip when holding their pencil, and then they will use the reading phones to practice reading their stories to themselves.

This will allow them to build confidence and reading fluency before they share their stories with others. The students love sharing the stories they have written with their partners, the whole class, and sometimes we are given the opportunity to share our stories with students from other classrooms. The pencil grips and reading phones will be a great way to get the creative writing rolling!
