My students need a hands-on archaeology kit with teacher materials.

I teach fifth-grade social studies. My school is a high-need, title one school. My classes include over one hundred students of every ability level, from gifted to special needs. I also have a high percentage of English Language Learners. All students are included in the classroom at all times.

Fifth grade is the first year students are exposed to history as a part of the social studies. When learning about the many ways we find out about the past, archeology is one subject that intrigues some and confuses many.

If I simply explain archeology to students, many of them will be left behind. If I can show it to them it will create a picture they can remember. If I involve them in the process every student will have an opportunity to appreciate and understand how and archeology works and why it affects them personally.

With your help my classroom can become and actual working archaeological site! We will purchase a set of materials used to investigate items we collect as well as some mystery artifacts from Native America. Imagine that!
