This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special because they try even with a number of challenging circumstances. They sometimes get frustrated and need help to work through their problems. They are willing to give it their all. Their parents want their children to do well in school. A lot of times the parents are working two jobs to make ends meet and have food on the table.
My children learn a different way through kinetics.
This means they need to learn through moving objects and doing an activity to learn a standard/concept that the teacher is trying to teach.
With lots of children in a classroom it is hard to do experimental learning with objects. My classroom works with smaller groups of children. The children need help learning to sit and focus. They still are capable of learning standards in their grade levels. Help me gather and have materials that will help these children sit and stay focused for longer periods of time.
My Project
See me write! See me focus! See me sitting! See me learn! This is what I want for all children, but for some students this is hard. I am asking for the weighted items and putty to aid the students that I teach. Many of them find weight calming. The feeling of the weight helps them to be still. It gets them to a place that they can learn. Several of my students have ADHD or Emotional Disabilities. They need help with sitting and controlling their emotions.
They need help preparing to learn.
This is where the items come into play. Students have wonderful ideas and imaginations, but when it comes to writing them down the answer is ”no way”. The putty is something that helps to warm up the muscles and in enables focus. This practice makes it easier for them to write.
