My Students

My students are the most wonderful kids in the world! Really! They are a very diverse population: African-American, Arabic, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Native American...at least 20 languages or dialects are represented. We are a true melting pot population which is approximately 1,100 strong.

We are a Title I school with at least 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced breakfast and lunch programs.

Many of our families are lead by a single parent, a grandparent or a recent immigrant who work at low-wage jobs and, frequently, multiple jobs just to "put food on the table."

My Project

Gameplan is a proven curriculum for music education. I have 2 of the curriculum books and love the lessons; as do my students. The Kindergarten book was not written when I started using the 1st and 2nd grade books so I would like to be able to start this program with my youngest students. I would like to continue the curriculum with my 3rd grade students.

The instructional materials in the Gameplan curriculum for elementary music education are "teacher tested and kid approved." The curriculum is based on the educational work done by composer Carl Orff.

Orff's methodology is based on teaching children models and then allowing them to use their own creative abilities.
