My Students

I teach in a low income/high poverty area. Most of my students come from broken homes, and many have had drugs impact their lives. My goal is to make school a safe place for them, someplace where they come and know they are safe and where someone has put their best interests first.

I try to create hands-on projects that the students will enjoy.

I find that my students learn best that way. Hands-on projects help to hold my students' interests better and help them focus.

My Project

One of the biggest obstacles that teachers face when trying to teach students is multiple absences due to illness. By using disenfecting wipes and a good hand washing regimen I hope to reduce the number of absences due to illness.

Students who miss a lot of school quickly fall behind.

The teacher has to find time to catch the student up. If the student has missed multiple days, that task could become very difficult. Our school has had a large amount of hand sanitizer and tissues donated to us and I believe that if we put the right steps in place the amount of absences will go down. Using the sanitizing wipes to clean the surfaces multiple times throughout the day and encouraging the students to use proper hand washing (and sanitizer) will help my students be in my room more.
