This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a low-income/high poverty area and are very diverse, both in race and socioeconomic status. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Many have experienced trauma and have some tough home lives, but that doesn't bring them down. They come to school every day and are very eager to learn.
Even with all their struggles, my students work very hard and take great pride when they accomplish a tough lesson.
They are enthusiastic about learning and excited to explore new learning opportunities every day!
My Project
We have returned to the classroom and for some of my scholars, this is the first time they have been in the school building in over eighteen months. As we develop plans for keeping safe this year, we are cognizant of the fact that scholars may need to have individual sets of materials, and that we will need to more frequently clean and sanitize our common spaces.
As we navigate COVID-19, we are getting creative with the many ways we deliver instruction and how students use our instructional space.
This may include lessons at our small-group instruction table, our rug, or even outside on the lawn on a nice day! All of these changes are intended to help us keep socially distanced and safe. In addition, we are cleaning and sanitizing our common spaces, such as tables, rugs, supplies, doorknobs, and water fountains multiple times every day.
The Lysol disinfectant spray and wipes will be used to clean surfaces, such as student desks and small-group tables, many times each day. For soft surfaces that cannot be wiped with traditional paper towels and spray, such as beanbag chairs and rugs, we will use the Microban aerosol cans of spray. The gloves will be used to protect sensitive skin from coming into contact with the cleaning chemicals.
