I am requesting compasses, protractors, templates, and binder cases for my geometry class at a San Francisco public high school. These students are regular students who could use the additional support to succeed. This class is taught using a discovery method. In other words, the students investigate and discover geometry through the use of tools, manipulatives and an interactive approach. It engages and stimulates the student to achieve more. Our schools funding dropped significantly this year and will drop even further next year. Since the students have had such success and become engaged in this discovery method, I want them to have their own materials. This will also maximize the discovery time and learning. These materials will be used throughout the school year. Some of the materials will be used daily and most certainly will be used weekly. Students will typically work in small groups and investigate various properties of triangles, circles, parallelograms, lines, angles and their relationships.
