Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine arriving at school on time and ready to learn after not eating since yesterday when school ended, completing your homework after caring for and putting your younger siblings to bed, and then being woken up as a parent kicks off their shoes when they return home from a second job. Or doing all of the above because you are from single parent home.
Imagine being new to our country, possibly with no immediate family, and planning to be the first in their families to graduate high school.
This describes my kids. Yet, my students want to come to school. They want to make a better life for themselves and their families.
My Project
Students will use the compasses to learn to make constructions in geometry. Many of them are also weak in measurement. So the ruler aspect of the protractor will reinforce measurements and fractions when drawing precisely. The measurement of angles will be done with these awesome protractors. It will provide hands-on manipulatives for my students to reinforce angle measurements and characteristics of shapes in Math 1 and Math 2.
Many of my ELD Math students have not experienced manipulatives first hand in their previous classes.
These tools will compliment the fine tip expo markers as they construct and measure on their individual whiteboards.
