The students this grant would help are taking a new class called Geometry in Construction. These students are learning their math while applying it to the construction industry. Students in this class display a large academic range, as well as interests and abilities. One thing is common with these students, they all want to learn by using a more hands-on approach instead of the traditional classroom method. These students are excited to learn building skills and how math relates to construction. The makeup of this class includes both boys and girls.
My Project
These tools and materials will make the geometry come alive in the construction process. Students will learn about geometry using calculators and whiteboards. Then they will apply that knowledge in the construction of a year-long project. We are planning on building a Tiny House to sell. These tools will allow a great opportunity for hands-on learning and will help geometry come to life!
Students will learn trigonometry in the classroom by finding missing angles and sides of triangles.
They will then use the clinometers outside to find heights of objects using the same trigonometry. This type of learning is the basis for this class.
