Geometric Shapes Help Kids Understand Volume

Help me give my students models of geometric shapes to help teach nets, perimeter, surface area, and volume.

My Students

I teach algebra and geometry to ninth and tenth grade students. It is important that I provide them with a strong foundation in math, so they will be successful in upper level math and science classes.

My students have worked hard this school year, and exciting manipulatives will help them understand the process of calculating the volume of objects.

It is difficult for many students to visualize shapes without actually being able to see them in 3D. In particular, my students with special needs will benefit greatly from hands on learning.

My Project

Nearly every student learns best by doing. Having a shape to hold up to the class really gets kids engaged and helps students see the pieces and parts that comprise cones, prisms, pyramids, spheres, cubes, etc.

An enthusiastic student once said, "Oh now I see what a net is!", after he was given a triangular prism that he was able to "unfold".

Tools such as geometric shapes help bring geometry to life. Please help me supply my students with manipulatives that will be used by 100 students year after year.
