I work with fifth graders in a suburban fourth to sixth-grade building that provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top performing schools in the state every year.
My students are kind and hardworking.
They're always pushing themselves to grow! They motivate me every day to be the best teacher I can be. Our classroom provides a place where students learn about the world through literature as they work to improve our Earth for everyone!
Geography is where it's at! It's also the theme of our year in Social Studies. But more than that, it is the foundation for who we are as citizens. It informs who we are as we relate to the world around us.
Students need visuals and tactile materials in order to really learn geography.
Just reading about places in a textbook is not enough. Students need to see the terrain, the culture, the land masses, and the people in order to really understand the geography. It is my goal to give students choice in their learning, through interactive and engaging activities. This year, with your help, I will be teaching a LEGO mapping simulation, edible landform activity, and use games, art, and supplemental reading materials to help make learning stick for all students.
These materials will put learning in the hands of students. They will be fully immersed in the land, the people, the history, and the landmarks for each area they study.
