My Students
My students walk into school every day ready to learn. I teach social studies. The students take pride in their work and have worked hard to achieve all that they have. Many of my students don't come from the best neighborhoods in town, but they try their best every day at school.
Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school.
Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student in my class reads below grade level. About 90% of our students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population. Our classrooms are dilapidated, textbooks are outdated and technology is virtually nonexistent.
My Project
My students have outdated text books. I only use the textbooks for the old maps. I am looking to get my students updated materials that will help them now. I teach on multiple types of maps and parts of the maps. It would be amazing to show them something different from an old textbook map. This is why I am requesting a class set of atlases.
I am requesting pencils since most students come to class without them.
The markers will be used to help with my anchor charts to go over more geography. All items requested will be essential for this class and will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
