My students are amazing! As a veteran teacher in a brand new school district, this group of students, staff and parents could not have been any more welcoming! I feel like I have known these students my whole teaching career. They are fun, silly, smart and wanting to learn!
Sometimes, even in communities that are well off, we as teachers still need support in the classroom.
Sometimes it is not the type of support that is written in a note, an email or even with a helping hand. Sometimes it is the support that is given through the things that we do not have, the things that we need, to help continue make a difference in each child's unique learning experience. My students deserve to expand their education with various types of technology in the classroom in this ever changing world that is focused on 21st Century skills.
My Project
I have changed grade levels for the past five years in a row. Any funding that I have received I have had to use to focus on those other grades and students. Now that I will be staying in fifth grade and have moved from lower elementary to upper elementary, I have big plans to enforce the genius hour research project for my students. As I finish my masters degree in reading, I have learned many new things and ways to tie in technology in all content areas, especially focused in literacy. At my school we only have 30 Chromebooks to share between each grade level and I only have five Chromebooks in my classroom. By having iPads in the classroom my students would have easier access to research and also use other apps that would be beneficial for their learning before they go to middle school. In this era, I have seen the importance of learning critical technology and research skills and I am so excited to teach them!I have used Kindles before, however, I am more familiar with the iPad and there is less disruptions with the iPads since the cheaper Kindles that I have used in the past, tempts students to download games as they advertise when students open up the Kindle. iPads are easier to manage and user friendly for students.
