My Students
I'm proud to teach in an innovative, public-school, Montessori program for students in Detroit. Our program strives to meet the needs of all students with differentiated learning experiences by using hands-on materials and project based activities.
This year, I'm teaching fifteen, amazing, inquisitive fourth through sixth grade students in my Montessori Upper Elementary classroom!
Our Montessori curriculum includes language arts, math, geometry, science, geography, history, and more. In addition to fostering a lifelong love of learning, we strive to foster peaceful and respectful attitudes by teaching students problem solving and positive communication skills. These skills are important not only in the classroom, but in creating a kinder world!
My Project
In the Montessori curriculum, there is a great emphasis on the study of geometry, especially in the Upper Elementary classroom. The series of Sir Cumference books are filled with humor, word play and adventure. These books also demonstrate problem solving and real world applications for geometric concepts. These books will help generate interest in geometry and provide the inclusion of literacy in math lessons. The high quality compasses and rulers will give students the opportunity to explore geometric concepts with hands-on activities that align with the Montessori curriculum and lessons.
