This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my general music classroom, my students sing together while learning to read music. We use small xylophone sets and recorders to assist with their music literacy.
In the next year, I hope for them to be able to play multiple instruments within the classroom while enhancing music literacy.
Our students are a diverse group of 9th graders who come from a variety of backgrounds and locations within the DC area.
While they have several challenges, they give their best effort on a daily basis.
Our school is bases on a family environment. We have a strong team of leaders and educators who work daily to make the best out of our students as they strive to become great media contributors. As a journalism and media arts school, it is our goal to not only make them great contributors in media, but in the culture as a whole. We are a school that is "re-writing the future, one student at a time."
My Project
The new guitars will allow for the start of creating a guitar club. Many students within our school have expressed the desire to learn to play guitar or know how to play but don't own one of their own. The guitars will also add another layer of musical accompaniment within our classroom. Students who already have guitar experience will be accompanying our students while they play xylophones and recorders.
The new electric drum set will serve those young man and women who have the desire to play the drum set. The electronic style could be played at anytime within our building without being a distraction to other classes or teachers. The electric drum set would also serve our music students who desire to develop and produce their own music for their videos and films within the media arts classes.
This project will make a major difference to our students because most of them have never had full access to these kind of instruments or equipment.
These donations will give them a greater appreciation for what they see on television and hear on the radio because they would now be learning to play these instruments and do what they see and hear in the media on a daily basis. Our students have interest in these instruments, but they don't currently have access to them.
