My students need general classroom materials including pencils, dry erase markers, glue sticks, rubber bands, scissors, and tape. These items will allow my students to participate in a variety of enriching classroom activities.
On a regular day, my classroom is filled with 6 classes of rambunctious, middle school students, that I often refer to as "my kids". These kiddos fill the desks (sometimes in very awkward positions) each day with all the energy and emotion you would expect from middle school aged students. Some of them are laughing while others are grumpy; some are snacking while others are hungry, but they all show up to be welcomed as my kids. My kids are learning who they are and who they want to be. They drive me crazy and keep me sane at the same time; and often they teach me more than I teach them. My students simply are, My Kids.
My Project
This school year I will be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who need extra support in math. In my intervention-classroom, students will create interactive notebooks and participate in a variety of activities and games that will build their confidence and competence in math.
Students succeed when given the chance to be creative with their learning!
Interactive notebooks, games, group activities, and projects have helped my students organize their learning, synthase their understanding of new and old ideas, provide a mechanism for their creativity, build confidence in their math abilities, and improve their comprehension of important mathematical concepts.
I have had great success implementing these methods with At-Risk Youth and want to continue to do so in my intervention classes. In order to continue this practice I need help providing the essential materials for my classroom. Fortunately I already have colored pencils, markers, rulers, protractors, and interactive notebook curriculum; however, I need pencils, dry erase markers, glue sticks, rubber bands, scissors, and tape for my students.
