This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a STEM teacher at a Title I elementary school. This is our inaugural year with a STEM lab. In our lab, students will enjoy hands-on learning activities that will allow them to apply technology, science, math, and engineering skills.

Our new STEM lab will be a place for all students to collaborate, build, explore, and problem solve while learning.

Our students come to STEM ready for hands-on challenges with open ended solutions. While working within the design process, students in STEM are encouraged to think outside the box to stay engaged and grow socially and academically in all subject areas. Our STEM lab is quickly becoming a favorite among our students.

My Project

With funding of this project, our elementary students will be able to explore energy in a new way - using gears. In our mechanical engineering lessons we will learn about the use of gears around us and then our students will get to put their knowledge and curiosity to work.

These hands-on gear kits will give our students the opportunity to see gears in action!

Students will create and collaborate on different protocols with a variety of gear sizes to see how they move at different rotation speeds and a variety of power.
