Most people have strong memories of middle school, some better than others. One of the reasons I love teaching middle school is because it is such an important time in my students' lives. They are in the midst of a time period characterized by intense emotional and physical change.
In addition to teaching 7th grade Social Studies, which is a world history course, I try to teach my students how to be decent human beings, which I consider the most important aspect of my job.
I use the study of history to help my students learn what means to be human, which they are in the trenches (history teacher joke) of figuring out.
My Project
Help me get my classroom ready for next year! Students struggle with understand location of countries in relation to other countries in the world so I would love to have a globe. Many of my students have never even seen an actual globe before!
I would also like to do call and response activities in which students write answers on dry erase boards, which is activity that is both educational and fun (essential for middle school).
For map activities, we always need colored pencils. Our curriculum focuses a lot on South America and Europe so I would like to have large maps for the students to look at and locate major events.
