My students need a small group table where they can meet for individualized reading instruction, and flexible seating options for independent reading time.
This will be my first year teaching fourth graders. My incoming students will be in for a challenging year of reading with both literature and non-fiction text. I have a very large leveled library in my classroom, including fiction, nonfiction, picture books and chapter books. It is so important to make a variety of books accessible for these kids to make a CHOICE during their daily independent reading time. I want students to have every opportunity to increase their reading fluency and comprehension; and maybe even more importantly, want to foster a love of reading in them!
By facilitating guided reading groups, students will be able to reach their highest potential.
The table I am requesting will allow me to easily work with each student in the group as they are partaking in word work, fluency practice and comprehension strategies. At the same time, other students will have comfortable seating options for their independent reading time. I want to provide my students with the tools they need to succeed.
My Project
The small group table will give me full access to each student as they are reading leveled readers with their peers. It will be easy to guide students without drawing attention to the whole group. Working with small groups is so important. This will be my opportunity to work closely with no more than 5 students at a time, and focus on any help they need. It will be the perfect learning spot!
Along with the small group table for individualized groups, students also need access to a comfortable space to read independently.
The flexible seating options get students excited to curl up with a good book! A donation towards this project will help my students engage in reading, and instill a love for learning.
