My Students

The students involved in this project are high school kids interested in engineering, programming, and problem solving. Our school is in a small rural district with few resources. DK Gear Cats is a unique group that includes athletes, musicians, and science scholars. They are mostly 11th and 12th graders, but they mentor younger kids as part of this project. This great group of kids is looking for real world experiences that will help them set their sites for the future!

My Project

We are a second year robotics team with FIRST. Last year was our rookie year and we won Highest Rookie Seed at every venue we competed at, including State! Students are given a problem, the competition arena, and asked to dream up a robot that can compete with others for points. They dream it, draw it, fabricate it, program it, and compete! It's the ultimate hands-on activity that is creating future engineers, CAD designers, marketing specialists, and programmers.

The supplies we've requested include aluminum/steel for robot fabrication, a carpet to create a practice arena from, a computer to use for programming and other miscellaneous supplies.
