My Students

Our first project was a huge success. We received music stands and drumsticks enough for everyone in the classroom. Now we need some drums to hit them on!

My students are an incredibly energetic and passionate lot.

I teach music to all students k-5, and I'm bringing many new ideas to the table. The students want to try new things, and many have never even seen a concert band on a stage. I was blown away by their curiosity when I showed them a snare drum. They had never seen anything like that up close! They are hungry to learn and have an enormous appetite.

My Project

We will play them in drum circles during class, in performances, and maybe in the community. My main goal for these instruments is to build leadership and teamwork. Each drum can have multiple people play on them. One person is a leader and the others are followers. I will trade leadership roles among them and together they will make their own, unique music.

These are gathering drums which mean they are large enough for multiple people to play on.

They are meant to foster teamwork and community bonding, which is crucial for my students who learn in a Title 1 school. Emphasizing teamwork in one class will lead them to use those same skills in other classrooms and life in general. Plus they look cool and who doesn't like cool looking drums. It will brighten their day and they will look forward coming to school!
