My students need a kidney-shaped table so we can work in small groups.
I teach in a New York City public school, which has approximately 1,500 students in grades pre-k through 6. I have a class of 32 students, who are all English language learners.
My students come from many different backgrounds and have a wide variety of formal school experiences and education.
Their abilities range from learning the alphabet and number recognition to reading grade-level materials and being able to solve multi-step word problems. Because of this, I must differentiate my lessons.
As an elementary and ENL teacher, it is necessary for me to conduct small group lessons. Presently, these lessons take place on the floor, where students must bring their books and pencils to lean on the carpet to write. This way is not ideal for instruction or learning. Therefore, I am asking for a kidney table for my classroom.
This type of table is perfect for small group instruction!
Students sit physically closer to the teacher and each other. This seating is better for demonstrating and sharing during guided reading, writing conferences, and math practice. Students will be more engaged in their learning, less distracted, and eager to share. Not to mention they will have their own space to work comfortably. At the same time, this arrangement allows me to see the rest of my class while I monitor my small group. Thank you for helping me create the best learning environment for my amazing students!
