I teach in an inclusive preschool classroom for children with special needs. My student's first day of school is often their first experience being in a classroom and around other student's their own age. They often come in shy, and nervous, but they are full of curiosity. They want to play and explore and make friends with the other student's in the classroom.
Each day allows me to provide new opportunities for my student's and help them develop their love of school.
As they become more comfortable in my classroom, their personalities shine through. They interact with the other students and start to build friendships. They don't let their differences or disabilities prevent them from talking to and playing with their friends. Each year, my students learn from me and I learn from them.
My Project
My students love to work and play together. Whenever one student starts an activity, another 5 want to join them. In our classroom right now we have small circle tables that fit four students. It makes it hard for more than 4 students to work and play together at a time. Having a large table will allow more students to work and play together at one time. Large group activities will allow students to work on communicating with each other, sharing with each other, and building their peer relationships.
With these child-sized tables and chairs, my students will be able to work and play together while working on a variety of skills.
These tables and chairs will not only help my students academically and socially, but they will also help keep our classroom clean. Our current set of chairs are hard to clean and hold on to germs. The table and chairs are easy for us to clean, and because they are child-sized, the students can help clean them as well.
Your donation to our project will provide so many opportunities for my student's from academics skills, social skills, and life skills. My students will feel comfortable working and play at tables and chairs that are made in their size. I know all kinds of learning will happen.
