My 5th graders are inquisitive, voracious readers who love to share their latest adventure they've taken in their books. Reading is their first love!
These students are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.
Students in my class are compassionate, clever, and creative. They come from a variety of backgrounds and socio-economic levels, but all strive to reach their highest goals set before them in all academics and the arts.
Fifth grade is a year of many changes for our students, academically, physically and emotionally. We are working to create a safe learning community where we can show kindness to everyone around us, and where we encourage each other to be the best person they can possibly be. Our school's motto, "Making a difference today for a better world tomorrow," is woven into daily life at our school and demonstrated by my amazing students as they interact with each other.
My Project
As a new 5th grade class unit at our school, we have had to start from scratch in an old portable. We have gathered any available desks and chairs from the school storage and items other teachers have been willing to contribute to our room.
By donating to our project, you will not only provide an amazing gathering space, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Two reading groups meet daily to work on comprehension skills, discuss the stories we are reading in class, complete extension projects related to our stories, and just let them share about their independent reading. We have a table in our room that has the potential to fit the groups for these activities, if only we had the necessary seating. Having the stools with backs around our table will be comfortable, safe, as well as provide space for more students to join in the group activities.
Of course, the gathering table will also be a place to complete science investigations, provide support in math, and allow for all kinds of creative expression beyond our reading period. I can hardly wait to tell my students, "Come gather around the reading table!"
