My students need campfire supplies - faux of course! This includes birch logs, red and yellow cellophane (flames), and a really cool battery operated flame-effect light!
Welcome to our third grade classroom! Looking around our room, it is easy to see and feel our passion for learning. Our cozy and colorful "Old West" room theme encourages an excitement for our travels this year and is integrated into every subject.
Although our school is located in an area where many families may struggle financially, every family loves their child and wants them to be successful!

My Project
Our classroom's decor is Old West. Y'all know you can't be a great cowboy without a great campfire! We are going to be building a faux campfire to sit around during a Math activity that I'm calling "Campfire Computations." We will need red and yellow cellophane for our faux-flames, real wood logs for authenticity, and a battery-operated theater light to make the flames appear to glow and flicker! It would be really helpful to have rechargeable batteries and a charger for the theater light. When our campfire is ready, we will be given elaborate Math story problems to solve as a team. We will hear the story and take notes by the "fire" and then when we solve it, we can go create posters to share our strategies.
Can you imagine doing Math next to a flickering and crackling "campfire"?
Maybe we'll celebrate our problem solving skills with some (microwave) S'Mores? Math will never be the same, yee-haw!
