Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from all over Los Angeles. Some come from broken families. Others come from loving and involved parents. The students have built a community in my classroom where friendship and trust is built and learned. Some students get on a bus early in the morning to come to our wonderful school. When they leave, it takes some two hours on a bus back to their homes. Most students do their homework on the bus and I (their teacher) am the only consistent thing in their lives.
My school is a Title I school and everyone gets breakfast in the morning; some students receive free lunches, too.
It's a great place to work, and all the kids want to learn while also having fun. My students in particular love outside projects and learning through experiences. Our school loves science and so do my students. We love conducting our own experiments outside in the fresh air.
What makes my students special is that they choose to come to our special school to learn and enrich their lives. Every day, each student has a smile on his or her face and that brightens up my day.
My Project
On December 15th, 2018, I went to the GATE Symposium in which neurologists explained the value of learning with these GATE gaming tools. Students need to be prepared for the future and explain how they solve problems. These simple problem-solving games can open students to understand problem-solving better. I want to use these tools in my classroom to challenge and educate students on the power of problem-solving.
These games are Neurologist recommended to improve brain health.
I wish I could afford these games on my own but with DonorsChoose.org I know I can help make a difference in the students' minds and make learning fun again. These neurologist recommended games are proven to improve overall learning and accuracy in test taking, problem-solving, reading and math.
