Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are first year 6th grade AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students. They decided they want to give back to their school by starting a Service Learning Project.
Our school is a small rural school of fewer than 500 students with a High ACES population.
They chose to build a flower garden on our school campus. Their goal is to not only beautify our campus, but also to deliver flowers to students and staff as random acts of kindness.
My Project
Students will gain experience using a variety of gardening tools and supplies to nurture and create a school flower garden. Our students will use trowels, potting soil, flower pots, and a variety of flowering seeds to construct their garden.
Gardens for Good will help our students learn more about the Environmental Sciences as well as help them apply what they have already learned to a real-life service learning project.
Students will practice cultivating and tending to a large vareity of flowering plants. Students will apply their knowledge of Botany, weather and climate, Earth's seasons, and Environmental Science to their garden.
