Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Diversity is our strength. Our school is a Level III school based upon 2018-2019 accountability data. Serving 766 students in the seventh and eighth grades, 63.8% of the population is economically disadvantaged. The population consists of 50% Hispanic, 18% White, 19% African American, 7% Asian and 5% Multi-Race non-Hispanic students.
Students are taught to interact with each other in a positive manner, respecting all students in their uniqueness.
With great diversity in our classroom, it makes teaching and learning about culture very interesting. We learn to listen to each other, hear our differences not only in our heads but in our hearts. Students in my classroom come from many ethnic backgrounds. Respect is a word that is used a lot in our class. In our Spanish class, learning about culture is an important piece of our curriculum.
My Project
We have a gardening club after school in our classroom. Any student is encouraged to be a part of our club. Not only do we garden during our club time, but we socialize, chat about life and enjoy each other. It is a safe place to learn about gardening with no academic pressure, although learning is happening.
The large cabinet will add to the success of our gardening club by providing a place for students to keep our valuable tools, supplies and seeds for gardening.
This cabinet with solely be used for the gardening club materials. Students will have easy access to our supplies and materials with an organized place to store everything.
