Gardening in the Classroom

My Students

My students are eager to learn but most don't have background knowledge of many things that are included in our curriculum. They get so excited when I bring in things from home or other places to share with them that they can see and touch and experience.

I try to offer them as many experiences as I can so that they have multiple modalities in which to learn.

They definitely learn best by hands on experiences! Outdoor classrooms are great!

My Project

We have a lot of gardening equipment that is currently taking up a lot of space in our classroom. We need a place to neatly store all of the items that we use to maintain our gardens outside our classroom. The storage shed will provide that space.

The children are learning to compost, grow their own food, and all about the life cycles of different seeds and plants.

Many of them have never gotten a chance to work with soil or plants, and I am hoping to instill a love of the earth and nature in them!

Eating food you have grown yourself is exciting!
