Gardening for Peace

My students need these materials to help with garden maintenance. Weed tarp is essential to keeping our garden looking good. Our hose reel broke recently, so we need a new hose reel for easy watering.

My Students

I teach in a unique Montessori magnet program at a Title I school. My students work hard to master the math and social studies skills that I teach them.

In addition to learning in the classroom, my students also upkeep a school garden that gives students throughout the whole school a peaceful place to eat lunch and have outdoor lessons.

My students enjoy working in the garden, but every year we struggle to find funding - especially for the big items that we need.

My Project

My students measure and cut weed tarp to fit certain areas to maintain a healthy, good looking, peaceful garden atmosphere. Students throughout the school see the garden every day, and classes use the space to hold outdoor lessons/eat lunch on fall and spring days.

Students learn how to maintain a garden by getting dirty and working!

Additionally, students always want to water the garden - and having a hose reel that works will make watering a task that students can do independently.

My students are learning that gardens are a lot of work, but gardens are also very rewarding and can provide a peaceful place to spend time.
