This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a PreK classroom at a public school, serving 6-8 students in a self-contained setting. My students primarily are students diagnosed with autism but can have other disabilities that require specialized instruction as well.
We love hands-on learning!
The best way to learn is to use as many senses as possible, and by this I mean incorporating some real world experiences to help students connect their learning.
My students are such a joy to teach! Every day they make me laugh or smile with their bright personalities. I want nothing more than to keep those smiles on their faces while they are learning, and that means fewer worksheets and more hands-on and play-based learning. Due to this being a brand new classroom and the loss of Head Start funding, we are starting from scratch. Your donations help us provide wonderful materials for our students to learn and grow!
My Project
This project is for my students and my school's students use for an afterschool program to foster knowledge about plants and the world around us.
The gardening tools will be used by students to help take care of our school's garden and grow different seasonal vegetables and fruits.
Students will have more buy in to try different foods if they grew it themselves!
I really want our students to be able to understand nutrition through hands on experience and not just from a textbook. Good nutritional habits start from a young age and unfortunately many of our public schools do not teach children about nutrition and eating healthy in a fun and hands-on way.
