My students need the portable lap desks and picnic blanket for use in our outdoor garden to be able to use their tablets safely while exploring nature and for sampling our harvests!
Many of our students participate in a backpack food program to have food on the weekends, and our school offers a monthly food bank for the entire community, which many students' families use. We are diverse with Hispanic, Haitian, Philippine, and American families.
I teach at a Title I school in Southwest Florida with students from all walks of life who deserve the same opportunities as those from affluent families.
I have a class with about half of my students in an Exceptional Student Education program. Our students are caring, considerate and hard working. Despite the low income conditions, they deserve resources that will be current and interesting. Not being able to provide them the best is heartbreaking. Each year, as a new school year begins, I build the bonds that keep me inspired to do everything possible for them.
My Project
Our school has an amazing garden with 25 raised beds. We grow many different types of vegetables for students to plant, nurture and harvest. The best part is that students also get to sample what they have personally grown and experience many tastes they have never had before.
Purchasing the picnic blanket and portable tablet desks will allow our gardening club to have safe and comfortable seating among the plants, to journal, document growth, and take photographs.
We also plan to prepare our harvest in numerous ways and have picnics outside so that we can experience our tastings in a fun and interesting way. Students love being outdoors and having time to relax after a hard day's work!
