Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a third grade teacher I am required to teach a wide variety of reading skills to my students. Often this is done with books and worksheets. I would like to get some games that build these skills in a fun way. In pursuit of finding materials to better teach these skills, I came across some reading skills games. I am looking for someone to donate these games to my classroom.
Please help my class move away from the drill and practice based on worksheets to master essential reading skills. My school has a very high rate of low-income students; so much of my classroom money is used to support activities in the classroom. There is never any extra money in which I could use to buy these games. These games will provide a fun way for the students to develop and master the skills they will be required to use on the State tests in May.
When students use the games, they are required to read a card and answer questions about what they read. Each question is based on certain types of information. To get the information to answer the questions correctly, the students need to develop and use different reading skills. The skills that are covered in these games include comprehension, using context clues, parts of speech, grammar, spelling and phonics. When students are required to use these skills to solve the question, they are applying that skill to what they are reading.
Please help my class move away from the drill and practice based on worksheets to master these essential reading skills.
