My students need new games to play with in the classroom. My indoor recess games are getting worn out and need to be replaced. I have selected some new academic games to add to the collection.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a great school in a tough neighborhood. Around 98% of our students participate in the free/reduced-price lunch program and receive Food Bank donations to sustain their families during the week. My students are fighting poverty every day!
Over 95% of my students are English Language learners and are the first generation in their family to learn English.
Many of the students are exposed to gang activity and behavior due to the neighborhood environment. They work so hard and are so resilient!
My Project
The wildfires have affected my class and school both directly and indirectly. I have a student who lost his home to the Tubbs fire, fleeing in the middle of the night with the shirt on his back, on foot with his family. The rest of my students have been affected more indirectly- all know at least 1 or more families who lost everything.
Many of my students are now hosting relatives in their home, until a more permanent solution can be found- this makes their daily life more challenging.
Housing was very challenging in our community, prior to losing 5,000+ homes. The rents have gone up and are severely affecting the low income families that attend our school.
I would like the opportunity to update my classroom games cabinet. Many of the games are 8+ years old now and just arent holding up over time when more than 300 kids have played with them. This project would provide a classroom cabinet full of new fun and academic games - games that I could also use to teach during class time. Games are a way for my students to 'escape' reality for a few minutes- they get lost in the game and it provides a few minutes of childhood laughter and fun. I know they would be ecstatic to receive brand new games! I would also be able to use the Language arts game during my English learner instruction time, to increase verbal language skills. These games allow students to practice key skills without realizing that they are working hard! Games make even the most boring lessons very fun!
